Distributing Combo Client Licenses

Prior to version 7.0 of Perceptive Content (formerly known as ImageNow), combo licenses required an additional setting in the configuration file to allocate licenses between the ImageNow Client and WebNow.

Combo client licenses are a fully dynamic pool in version 7.0 and above. This means that as users log into the thick client or WebNow, the licenses are drawn from the open license pool. It is no longer required to set hard values for the thick client or WebNow.

Administrators can still reserve portions of combo licenses in a situation where it is needed by using License groups in the management console.

To allocate combo licenses using a license group.

  1. Log in to the Perceptive Content Management Console

  2. Under Cross Department Settings expand Licenses and select License Groups.

  3. On the right side, select New to create a new group. In this example, I have named the group Test.

  4. Highlight the new group and select Modify. This will open the License Group Members dialog box.

  5. Click Add to open a dialog box and select users to add to the group.

  6. Click OK to close the open dialog boxes.

  7. In the Management Console, under Licenses, select License Distribution.

  8. In the right pane, highlight Combo Licenses and select Modify.

  9. In the License Distribution dialog box, select Add.

  10. In the License Group Distribution, select the new group you created and click OK.

  11. In the License Distribution dialog box, select the group and select Modify.

  12. In the dialog box, enter the number of licenses you would like to allocate for the group and click OK.

  13. Click OK until you get back to the main Management Console. Under License Distribution you should see the amount of licenses allocated for Combo Client shown.

  14. Close the Management Console.

**NOTE** It is not advisable to allocate all licenses in a license group to the thick client or WebNow. So for example, if you have 50 licenses and 25 thick client users, do not allocate 25 licenses from the pool. This will cause the allocated licenses to act like seat licenses, which could cause problems if a 26th user needs to log in. Instead, allocate 15 to 20 licenses and leave some in the open pool so that some level of concurrency is maintained. This will help prevent user lockout.
